In 1955, the Citrus County Fair Association developed a watermelon field into a 1/4-mile dirt race track where horses could race. It did not take long before horsepower came in the form of race cars and the love of local stock car racing began.
Many of our race officials have been at the racetrack since the 1980s. Their attention to the details of race track operations and race day scheduling bring a level of expertise and excitement to every event.
William Ray stepped into the role of track promoter in 2016 and elevated the failing venue to a Premier Race Facility.
Through his efforts, Citrus County Speedway and Track has become the racetrack of choice for a number of traveling series and national invents including the INEX Legend Cars Winter Nationals and the World Figure 8 Tour’s 2024 Winter Storm Series.
Ray holds the lease for Citrus County Speedway through 2035.
